Five Army personnel killed during tank exercise in Ladakh

SRINAGAR: Five soldiers were killed in a tank accident near Ladakh’s Daulat Beg Old border. The incident happened on Saturday morning. The incident took place around 3 am during a tank exercise involving a river crossing. A senior army officer said that the accident occurred due to a sudden rise in the water level. The bodies of five people who died in the accident have also been recovered.

A statement from defense officials said that five soldiers were swept away in the early hours of Saturday. Authorities recovered a body of a crew consisting of a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four other ranks as a T-72 tank. Submerged after sudden rise in water level. A search is on for the remaining four soldiers in the Neoma-Chushul area near the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
