Heavy rains will continue in the state till Friday, orange alert issued in three districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has informed that heavy rain will lash the state today and tomorrow. Orange alert has been issued in three districts in view of heavy rains. Orange alert in Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Yellow alert has been declared in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts.

Heavy rains are due to low pressure area located from Maharashtra coast to central Kerala coast and strong westerly/southwesterly winds over Kerala coast. Orange alert means heavy rainfall of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

Yellow alert has been declared in the districts from Ernakulam to Kasaragod due to heavy rain. The Central Meteorological Department has predicted that the heavy rain will subside by Saturday.

The Central Meteorological Department has informed that you should not go fishing on the coasts of Kerala – Lakshadweep and the coast of Karnataka. The warning says to be cautious as there is a possibility of strong winds and bad weather with gusts of 35 to 45 km per hour and in some cases up to 55 km per hour.

The National Oceanographic Research Center said that special vigilance is needed along the coasts of Kannur and Kasaragod districts. High waves and rougher seas are likely. According to the warning, the coasts of Kollam, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts are likely to have a high wave of 2.7 to 3.6 meters and storm surge till 11.30 pm on Friday.
