Siddharth’s death, 19 accused granted conditional bail

Kochi: Bail for the students arrested in connection with the death of Pookode Veterinary University student JS Siddharth. The High Court granted conditional bail to 19 people arrested in connection with the case. Justice CS Diaz granted bail to the accused. The CBI argued that the testimony was crucial in the case and that if the accused were granted bail, the witnesses could be influenced, but this was rejected by the court.

Siddharth’s mother Sheeba had opposed the bail plea. The charges of ragging, inciting suicide, assault and conspiracy have been charged against the accused. The CBI had opposed the bail of the accused. With this, all 20 accused in the case are out on bail. Earlier, the CBI court had granted bail to one accused. The High Court has granted bail to all 19 accused with strict conditions.

The High Court has ordered that the accused should not enter the Wayanad district until the trial is over, should not leave the state until the case is over, should not destroy the evidence and should not influence the witnesses. The age of the accused and the fact that they are students were taken into account for granting bail. The accused submitted the bail application stating that the final report in the case has been submitted and that they do not need further custody. Earlier, the court had directed to produce the case diary.

After the Kalpatta Sessions Court rejected the bail plea, the accused approached the High Court. On February 18, 2024, Siddharth was found hanging in the bathroom of the hostel. The case is that Siddharthan committed suicide after the accused conducted a public trial and brutally beat him up.
