59,688 priority cards were cancelled for three consecutive months of non-purchase of rations.

Palakkad: The free ration of 59,688 families in the state was canceled due to non-purchase of ration for three consecutive months. Those who were getting benefits in the priority category were also reclassified to Non-Priority Non-Subsidized Ration Card (NPNS-Non-Priority Non-Subsidy). If you want to get preferential benefits, you will have to submit a new application.

The benefits of ration card holders belonging to Antyodaya Annayojana (AAY), Priority House Hold (PHH) and Non-Priority Subsidy categories have been cancelled. Ration cards under the priority household category have been changed the most. 48,724 family members belonging to this category lost the benefit.

Ernakulam district has the most number of people without benefits – 8,571. The lowest is in Wayanad-878. The Public Distribution Department decided to take action after noticing that people belonging to the priority category were not buying the ration from any ration shop. Those who have lost the benefits can apply again and get the benefits back. The card will be renewed only to those who are sure to buy the ration.
