Jisha murder case: Accused Amirul Islam gets death sentence, high court upholds sentence

Kochi: The High Court rejected the appeal filed by accused Amirul Islam against the death sentence awarded by the trial court in the Perumbavoor Jisha murder case. A division bench of the High Court upheld the death sentence passed by the trial court. Jisha’s mother and sister had come to the court to hear the verdict. Amirul Islam, a native of Assam, has been charged with murder, rape, trespassing and causing grievous hurt. The argument of the accused in the appeal is that he did not commit the crime and the trial court considered the evidence against him fabricated by the police. Jisha, a law student, was killed on April 28, 2016 in Perumbavoor.
