Kochi: Among the victims in the organ trafficking case in Kochi, one is a native of Palakkad and the rest 19 are from North India, police said. It is suspected that many people have become victims of organ trafficking through him. Apart from these, the police believe that more people have become victims of organ trafficking.
Sabith Nasser (30), a native of Thrissur, who is an agent of a gang that takes people abroad and sells organs, was arrested in Kochi last day. There is also information that one more person has been taken into police custody and is being interrogated in connection with the incident.
The National Investigation Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency have started an investigation into the organ trafficking case. Information such as whether the accused is related to international organ trafficking gangs is being investigated. Whether the arrested Sabit is an intermediary or a main agent is also under investigation.
It is reported that the related surgery is being performed from a hospital in Iran. They were given fake Aadhaar cards and passports and taken to Iran. The organ will be taken from there and then brought back. The victims were paid a meager amount. It is not clear how much money was paid to them, whether there are other big links related to organ trafficking and how many people have been victims.
