Kuwait fire; Death toll of Keralites rises to 24

The number of Malayalis who died in the fire in Kuwait has reached 24. Norca CEO confirmed this. Norca CEO Ajith Kolassery stated that seven Malayalees are in critical condition in hospitals. He informed that it will take at least two days to bring the dead body to the country.

49 people lost their lives in yesterday’s disaster. It is reported that 40 of them are Indians. Among them, 14 Malayalis were identified. The deaths of Kothaparam Kuppante Puraikkal Nooh (40), a native of Malappuram Tirur Kootayi, MP Bahuleyan (36), a native of Malappuram Pulamanthol Srihari Pradeep (27), were newly confirmed at their house in Changanasheri Itthithanam Ilangkao area in the east.

The government will provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the family members of the Malayalis who died in the accident. A special cabinet meeting held today also decided to pay Rs 1 lakh each to the injured. Lulu Group Chairman MA Yusafali announced that a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh will be given to the families of the deceased. Leela Group Chairman Ravi Pillai has also informed the government that he will provide assistance of Rs.2 lakh each.

This assistance will be provided through NORCA. The Council of Ministers condoled the tragedy in Kuwait. 14 Malayalees died in the fire. The Ministry of External Affairs said that efforts have been started to bring the dead bodies home.
