Thiruvananthapuram: Theft in an ancient temple in the capital. Panchaloha idol worth crores was stolen from Poonthura Uchamadan Devi Temple. By breaking the locks on the door of the temple shrine, the idol of Goddess Durga in Panchaloha and the related small idols used for shiveli were stolen.
A 60-year-old Panchaloha idol weighing 32 kilograms and measuring one and a half feet in height was stolen. The robbery happened last night. The arched lamp placed behind the idol was found dumped in the bushes near the temple.
When he came to walk in the morning, Melshanti found the lock of the shrine open. Later, the temple officials were informed. Police and fingerprint experts reached the spot and conducted the inspection. The police said that the robbery was planned. Poonthura police registered a case and started investigation.
This is the third theft in the temple in a year. Eight months ago, the show van of the temple was broken into and money was stolen. Last month, the three lamps used for puja on the part of the deities were stolen.
