Sabarimala pilgrimage should be allowed, High Court rejects plea of 10-year-old girl

High Court rejects 10-year-old girl’s plea seeking permission for Sabarimala pilgrimage. The matter is being considered by the Supreme Court wide bench. The petition was filed by a 10-year-old girl from Karnataka.

The petition was filed in the High Court by the child through his father. The demand in the petition was that she is only 10 years old and has not yet menstruated, so she should be allowed to perform pilgrimage to Sabarimala during Mandala and Makaravilak season.

The petition also demanded that the Devaswom Board should be instructed to allow the pilgrimage. But the demands were rejected by the Devaswom bench of the High Court.

It was pointed out that the petition related to Sabarimala is under the consideration of the Supreme Court and it is not right for the High Court to intervene in the petition in the absence of a definite decision. The court also observed that the girl is now more than ten years old.

In the petition, it has been requested that earlier Makarvilak was to come for the pilgrimage, but due to the spread of covid and the health problems of his father, he was not able to do so, so that he should not be denied the opportunity to do darshan.
