US Court Approves Extradition of 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack Accused Tahawwur Rana to India

The United States is ready to extradite Canadian businessman Tahavoor Rana, a Pakistani terrorist wanted by India in the Mumbai terror attack case. India has asked the US to extradite Tahavoor Rana under the Extradition Treaty. The US court decided to extradite Tahavoor Rana to India after it was found that he was related to David Headley, the accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack case.

Rana is being investigated in India for conspiring to carry out the Mumbai terror attack for Pakistani terrorist organizations along with his friend US citizen David Headley. Within a year of the Mumbai terror attack, Rana was arrested by the FBI in Chicago.

Assistant US Attorney and Head of Criminal Appeals Bram Alden said that India has every right to do so and will immediately extradite Rana to India. He said that the order of the American lower courts in this regard is correct.

The investigation team also found that Rana and his friend David Coleman Headley visited various places in Mumbai to carry out the attack. It has been decided to extradite Rana to India as he completes his sentence and prepares to be released from prison.

Although Rana had approached the American court against this, the court ruled that India has every right to demand Rana as it falls within the ambit of the extradition law.
