Sudha Murthy, Whose Assets Exceed Rs 775 Crore, Reveals She Hasn’t Bought a New Saree in 30 Years

Rajya Sabha MP, writer and social activist Sudha Murthy, who has a net worth of Rs 775 crore, wears clothes that are thirty years old. There is an interesting decision behind why Sudhamurthy did not buying new clothes and it was because of a trip to Kashi.

In an interview with a national media, Sudha Murthy opened up about her simple life. She also says that there is a clear reason behind the decision not to buy new clothes. It all started with a trip to Kashi. Before that trip, Sudha Murthy’s favorite hobby was shopping. People who go on pilgrimage to Kashi have a habit of giving up something important in life. That’s how she gave up shopping

‘Many may find it difficult to fulfill such a pledge. My parents and their predecessors loved the simple life. As I was brought up in the same way, I did not find it difficult to go ahead with this decision. My mother died six years ago. At that time there were less than 10 sarees in my mother’s closet. I grew up this way too. So I have only a handful of clothes’ Sudha Murthy has only sarees gifted to her by close friends, voluntary organizations and sisters for nearly 20 years. The most favorite among them are two sarees. These are hand embroidered sarees gifted by women who have achieved success in life with the help of Infosys.

Sudha Murthy adds that even if the gift is too much, she still finds it difficult. The sisters used to give at least two sarees a year. So years passed and the wardrobe seemed full of sarees. With this, the sisters were told not to gift sarees anymore.’-says Sudha Murthy. Sudha adds that the saree is her favorite garment and a saree lasts a long time as it is carefully washed, dried, ironed and worn carefully so that it does not touch the floor.
