Dubai’s Palm Fountain – Guinness record for world’s largest fountain

The Palm Fountain in Dubai was crowned the Guinness World Record holder for the world’s largest fountain, stealing the title from the Banpo Moonlight Rainbow Fountain in South Korea. The Dubai Fountain is the largest choreographed fountain show in the world, covering an area of 8 acres of land. It is set in the Burj Khalifa Lake, downtown Dubai city. The fountain system was inaugurated during the opening of the Dubai Mall and is essentially a part of the same. The fountain is built in a unique design and is visible from as far as 20 miles away when the shows are on. The design of this magnificent water monument comprises of five circles of various sizes and two arcs. The Palm Fountain spread over 14,000 square feet of seawater, is located at The Pointe shopping and dining district on Palm Jumeirah, a man-made palm-shaped island. Equipped with 3,000 LED lights and 7,500 nozzles, the fountain can shoot water up to 105 metres. The powerful nozzles shoot as much as 83 thousands of litres of water. The 50 colour projectors and 6,600 lights installed within the platform, create as many as 1000 water and light patterns, achieving a spellbinding effect. The accompanying music ranges from classical Arabic compositions to modern, international pop selections, including the works of Michael Jackson, Andrea Bocelli or Whitney Houston. Dubai’s only multicoloured fountain, designed with colour and brightness controls, will be open to the public all year round. The fountain performance is accompanied by light and music shows and is visible from every point of the lake promenade. Laser shows accompany the fountain dances in the evenings. The Dubai Fountains offer two amenities to allow the spectator to get closer to the fountain show. The Dubai Fountain Boardwalk is a wooden structure built on the Burj Lake. Apart from that, the Dubai Fountain Lake Ride allows spectators to enjoy the show from traditional Abra boats on the Burj Lake. Tickets for both facilities must be booked in advance. Shows are held daily, with a minimum of one show per day, and does not charge a fee to be witnessed. Located at The Pointe in Dubai’s waterfront Palm Jumeirah area, the glitzy Palm Fountain was unveiled in a launch that was live-streamed around the world. Meanwhile, strictest health and safety measures and rules were followed during the show, such as temperature checks.
