Bangladesh Protests, Sheikh Hasina resigns as Bangladesh PM

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reportedly resigned and fled the country amid massive protests against her government that have killed more than 106 people since Sunday.

Hasina was reportedly forced to resign as prime minister after massive protests against the government over the controversial quota system that reserved 30 percent of government jobs for relatives of veterans of the 1971 Bangladesh independence struggle.

The agitation which started on the issue of reservation in government jobs turned into a strike against the government. More than two hundred people were killed in the clashes that took place a few days ago on the issue of reservation. The agitation against the government started after this ended. Insurgency has spread in 13 districts of the country. Sheikh Hasina announced an indefinite curfew in the country, announcing that the agitation would be suppressed with an iron fist. A national holiday has also been declared for 3 days from today.
