Golden Globes 2021

Golden Globes 2021, the 78th edition of the awards, were held at two locations: Rainbow Room in New York and Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. As it was held virtually, with actors Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting the show from New York and Los Angeles, respectively. This is their fourth outing as hosts of the award ceremony.

The 78th Golden Globe Awards is taking place nearly two months later than normal, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cinema and television. Nomadland wins Best Drama and Best Director while Borat wins Best Comedy and there are wins for The Crown’s Prince Charles, Lady Diana and Margaret Thatcher at the Golden Globes. ‘The Crown’ won in all of the four categories it was nominated for, including – Best Actress win for Emma Corrin, Best Actor win for Josh O’Connor, Best Supporting actress award for Gillian Anderson and the top honour of Best Drama Series. Also emerging as top winners of the awards season were the small-town hit comedy series ‘Schitt’s Creek’. The show snagged the award for Best Television Series- Musical or Comedy and Best Actress – Musical or Comedy.

‘The Queen’s Gambit’ also won big as it took home the Golden Globe for Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television. It also won lead actress Anya Taylor-Joy her first Golden Globe. Mark Ruffalo, on the other hand, won in the Best Actor in a Limited Series category for his role in ‘I Know This Much Is True’.
