Grammy Awards 2020 : BTS nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Category

K-pop band's new English song, 'Permission To Dance', is a foot tapping peppy track

The seven-member South Korean boy band BTS on Tuesday made history by snagging the first ever Grammy nomination for a K-pop band in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category with their chart topping single ‘Dynamite’.

The nomination includes other pop giants like Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift and Bon Iver, and Justin Bieber and Quavo.

Since their debut in 2013, the seven-member BTS band has been at the forefront of South Korean pop music, recently notching their first ever number one hit single on the Billboard charts with “Dynamite”.

The band full name is Bangtan Sonyeondan (Bulletproof Boy Scouts) — has ridden a global K-Pop wave with catchy, upbeat music along with lyrics and social campaigns aimed at empowering young people. The band has already bagged honours from the Billboard Music Awards, the American Music Awards and the MTV Europe Music Awards.

The team BTS – comprising RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook – became the first Korean act to perform at the Grammys this year by being part of Lil Nas ..X’s ‘Old Town Road’ stage. The less-than-a-minute long performance paired with the killer looks the seven pulled on the red carpet made them talk of the town at the 2020 Grammys.

The first-time nominees shared on Twitter their livestreamed reactions to their 2021 Grammy nomination in the best pop group performance field. They also became the first K-Pop group to present an award on the Grammy stage.

In the video, four of the seven members – the leader RM, singers Jimin, Jungkook and V – spring up from a sofa, clap and cheer in joy as the nomination for their hit single “Dynamite” is announced.

“Above all, ARMYs are the ones who helped this miracle come true – of us getting the Grammy nomination. Thank you always,” BTS said on Twitter, addressing the group’s fan base, known as ARMY, an acronym for Adorable Representative MC for Youth.

The announcement was made during a virtual livestream, which officially revealed the nominees in 83 categories for 63rd Grammy Awards. The award ceremony will be held on January 31, 2021.
