Justice Muhammad Mushtaq will take over as Acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court

New Delhi: The Union Law Ministry has issued an order appointing Justice Muhammad Mushtaq as the Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court. Justice Muhammad Mushtaq will take over as Chief Justice of the High Court from June 5 when the present Chief Justice AJ Desai retires. Justice Muhammad Mushtaq is currently the most senior judge in the Kerala High Court after the Chief Justice.

Justice Muhammad Mushtaq has delivered many important judgments which have attracted attention at the national level. It will also include some judgments passed to protect the rights of women, children, sexual minorities and tribals.

Justice Mushtaq’s judgment upheld the Khul system, which gave Muslim women the right to divorce outside the court. A division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Mushtaq passed the order to appoint lawyers to help the children.

Born in 1967 in Thana, Kannur, Justice Muhammad Mushtaq was born in VB, Udupi. He completed his law studies from Law College. He completed his Masters in Law from Mahatma Gandhi University. After enrolling as an advocate in 1989, he practiced in various courts in Kannur for seven years.

Justice Muhammad Mushtaq’s Master’s Degree is in Laws related to Space and Telecommunication from the University of Paris with a scholarship from the French Government. He has also completed a course in Private International Law from The Hague Academy of International Law. Justice Muhammad Mushtaq has also presented many papers related to law in international seminars.
