New York: As internal unrest continues in Bangladesh, protesters storm the consulate in New York. By forcing the officials, the pictures of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh, were removed. The footage of the incident was circulated on social media. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is also the daughter of Mujibur Rahman, left the country on Monday following protests against the job reservation system.
The footage shows protesters entering the consulate and taking away portraits of the founder of Bangladesh and other items. It is also clear in the video that some others are creating a ruckus by wearing caps colored with the Bangladeshi flag.
The agitation that started with anti-reservation protests in Bangladesh ended in riots. The rioters broke loose in the country demanding the resignation of 77-year-old Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Last Sunday alone, around 100 people were killed in the agitation. Then Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled from Bangladesh to India.
