Taliban accused of killing pregnant female Police Officer

Taliban militants have been accused of killing a female police officer in the province of Ghor in central Afghanistan. The woman, named in local media as Banu Negar, was shot dead at the family home in front of relatives in Firozkoh, the capital of Ghor Province, her family told the BBC, saying that she was eight months pregnant. The killing comes amid increasing reports of escalating repression of women in Afghanistan.

The Taliban told the BBC they had no involvement in Negar’s death and are investigating the incident. According to a report by BBC, family members of the officer told that her face was “heavily disfigured” due to the Talibani assault. The BBC report further said, “One report suggested Negar, who worked at the local prison, was eight months pregnant.” Reportedly, the accused were heard speaking Arabic. As per another report by The Sun, the Taliban had killed her in front her kids and husband during a door-to-door execution. Relatives supplied graphic images showing blood spattered on a wall in the corner of a room and a body, the face heavily disfigured. Three gunmen arrived at the house on Saturday and searched it before tying members of the family up, relatives say. Since taking back power after the fall of Kabul last month, Taliban leaders have said they would respect the rights of women within the framework of Islamic law. But incidents of repression against women are being reported in the country. Afghan women have held several protests for the past two days in Kabul and Herat, advocating for women’s rights and demanding equality, justice, and democracy.
