The federal government has warned that the threat of terrorist attacks has increased in Australia. The government has issued a warning to the public that there is a greater than fifty percent chance of an attack or planning an attack on a beach in the next twelve months.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced this after a meeting of the National Security Committee and the Cabinet. Intelligence experts say that the methods of terrorist attacks in Western countries are likely to be repeated in Australia.
The Australian National Security Council met urgently after the terrorist attacks in Britain. It said that there was no clear notification of imminent threat or danger.
The advice we’ve received is that more Australians embrace a wider variety of extremist ideologies. “So it is our responsibility to be vigilant,” the Prime Minister said. “This is the same threat level that has existed in Australia for more than eight years. It does not mean that the threat from terrorism is over in Australia. It is still there.”
