Air India Express Issues Layoff Notice to 200 Cabin Crew, Majority of Them Malayalis

Kochi : It is indicated that Air India Express has issued a dismissal notice to 200 cabin crew members who went on an unexpected strike. The management of Air India Express has announced that appropriate action will be taken against certain persons responsible for the lightning strike. Today, the Labor Department is holding discussions with the management and the Air India Express Employees Union to resolve the issue. Airline sources said that all the striking workers were given notice of termination on Wednesday. It is also known that 25 of them have already been dismissed. This issue of dismissal may also come up in today’s discussion.

Most of the 200 cabin crew members are Malayalis. Cabin crew members took mass leave on Tuesday night due to illness. Due to this, 90 services were suspended on Wednesday and thousands of passengers were in crisis.

Air India was supposed to operate 285 services today. Out of this 85 services have been cancelled. Air India will operate 20 canceled routes. If the flight is delayed by more than three hours, the passengers will be given a refund or will be given the facility to travel on a revised date. Flights from Nedumbassery airport at 8.50 am to Muscat and 2 pm to Kolkata have been cancelled. Air India management has now rescheduled the services for a week.

Air India Express is headquartered in Kerala. Air India Express is a sub-group of Air India owned by the Tata Group. Most of its senior cabin crew members are Malayalis. Most of the strikers belong to the L1 category, one of the most senior posts in cabin crew.
