Amoebic meningoencephalitis case: Kozhikode 14-year-old under treatment

Kozhikode: One more child has been diagnosed with amoebic encephalitis in the district. A 14-year-old resident of Thikodi Pallikkara was diagnosed with the disease. The child took a bath from the Kizhur Kattumkulam. He was admitted to the hospital 5 days ago.

The health condition of the child under treatment in a private hospital is satisfactory. The doctors said that he is responding to the medicines.

Three children died of amoebic encephalitis in Kozhikode hospitals within a month and a half. The deceased have been identified as Mridul (12), a native of Farook, Dakshina (13), a native of Kannur, and Fadwa (5), a native of Munniyoor, Malappuram.

The amoeba known as the ‘brain eater’ found in standing water enters the body mainly through the thin skin of the nose. Amoeba infects the brain.
