CPM politburo member MA Baby severely criticized the party’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. Word and deed, along with organizational failure, led to backlash. Keeping the media away also backfired. MA Baby opined in an article written in Pachakhutira magazine.
The vices within the party should be stopped. It later became Pinarayi’s style to tell words tothe media . There was nothing wrong or unusual in asking cameramen who were unwilling to leave before the meeting began. Media criticism on social media does more harm than good. Banning of the media and banning of media workers was a backlash. It should be remembered that the CPM in Bengal reached its present state in 15 years. Baby also points out that corrections are needed as soon as possible.
It cannot be denied that the setback in the elections is very serious. It is not only electoral setbacks that need to be scrutinized. To varying degrees, the left’s sphere of influence is experiencing a decline and leakage of mass influence, responsiveness, and impact power. MA Baby says in the article that this can lead to administrative problems and problems of speech, action and lifestyle that occur when dealing with masses.
The CPM has to continue its unceasing struggles and efforts to gain influence and mass trust many times more than today. Only through convincingly honest, fearless and open self-criticism and empirical corrections in word and deed can the CPM regain its lost mass influence.
