Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has said that there is a possibility of heavy rain in the state today. As part of this, rain warning has been announced in four districts today. Yellow alert has been announced in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. A yellow alert means heavy rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed that there is a possibility of dark sea phenomenon and high waves along the coast of Kerala and Tamil Nadu till 11.30 pm tomorrow. Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas should exercise special caution. The Central Meteorological Department has warned that rain with thunder and lightning is likely in Kerala.
Rains are falling in the state due to re-formation of low pressure area and cyclone. Heavy rain is likely in North Kerala and moderate rain elsewhere. This is due to the low pressure system from the north Kerala coast to the south Gujarat coast and the cyclonic gyre over the Bay of Bengal near the Andhra coast.
