BJP wipes out Congress from Haryana

After the state assembly elections, the BJP has now completely dominated the local body elections in Haryana. Once considered a Congress stronghold, Haryana has now turned in favor of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Congress suffered its second consecutive defeat as the BJP won nine out of ten mayoral positions in the state.

The Congress was wiped out even in key areas like Gurugram and Rohtak, the latter being a stronghold of senior Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda. The BJP’s landslide victory, securing nine out of ten mayoral seats, is considered a significant setback for the Congress.

In Ambala, BJP candidate Shailja Sachdeva won the mayoral seat, defeating Congress’s Amish Chawla by 20,487 votes. In Faridabad, BJP’s Parveen Joshi defeated Congress’s Lata Rani. The BJP also led in Karnal and Panipat.

In Hisar, BJP’s Praveen Popli defeated Congress candidate Krishan Singla. In Karnal, BJP’s Renu Bala Gupta won against Congress’s Manoj Wadhwa, while in Panipat, BJP’s Komal Saini defeated Congress’s Savita Garg.
In Sonipat, senior BJP leader Rajeev Jain overcame the challenge posed by Congress candidate Komal Diwan. In Yamunanagar, BJP’s Suman defeated Congress’s Kiran Devi.

The voting for the elections in Faridabad, Hisar, Rohtak, Karnal, Yamunanagar, Gurugram, and Manesar took place on March 2. The by-elections for the mayoral positions in Ambala and Sonipat municipal corporations were also conducted on the same day. Additionally, voting was held for 21 municipal committees. The BJP made significant gains in the municipal elections as well.
