Day of Mourning and Faith: Good Friday Observed Across the Globe

Good Friday is being observed across the world today as a symbol of sacrifice and love for humanity. It is the day when the Son of God was crucified for the redemption of mankind’s sins. Special prayers and services of the Passion are being held in Christian churches. These prayer ceremonies usually begin in the morning and continue until evening.

Good Friday commemorates the journey of Jesus carrying the cross to Mount Golgotha, enduring immense suffering, and his eventual crucifixion. Devotees will climb sacred hills, including the prominent Kurisumala in Malayattoor, carrying wooden crosses in remembrance.

Yesterday, on Maundy Thursday, churches held the traditional foot-washing service and Holy Eucharist adoration. The Paschal bread was broken as part of the ceremony.

By embracing a shameful death on the cross, Christ sanctified it. He bore the sins of humanity upon himself. Over time, the cross became a symbol of the suffering that Christ endured for the salvation of the world.
