Christians around the world are observing Maundy Thursday today, commemorating the Last Supper of Jesus Christ. The day marks the remembrance of Christ washing the feet of His twelve disciples and instituting the Holy Eucharist.
Special prayers and foot-washing ceremonies are being held in churches. In Kerala, Christian churches began observances with special prayers from the morning. The foot-washing ritual, recalling Jesus washing His disciples’ feet before the Last Supper, takes place in the morning.
In the evening, the “Breaking of the Bread” service is held in churches and homes as part of the Maundy Thursday observance.
This sacred time invites believers to reflect on the final moments Jesus spent with His disciples, the legacy He entrusted to them, and the commandments He gave for future generations to follow.
