Washington: Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. Taking the reins of the world’s most powerful nation, Trump signals a new dawn on the global stage. Widely known as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “best friend,” Trump’s presidency is anticipated to bring significant changes to India as well. Analysts speculate that a new world order may emerge, with Trump, Modi, Israel, and NATO nations working together.
In a historic moment, Trump took the oath of office at the same Capitol Building that witnessed unrest during his defeat in the 2021 presidential election. With Americans and the world watching, Trump was sworn in as the 47th President. Representing India, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar attended the ceremony, along with a significant Indian delegation.
Other global dignitaries included the Chinese Vice President and Foreign Ministers from Japan and Australia. Former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama also attended the swearing-in ceremony. Before the event, Trump prayed with his family, reading from the Bible, and then proceeded to the Capitol to assume the presidency. Known for his strong faith, Trump pledged to dedicate all his plans to God.
Prior to the inauguration, Trump held a “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” at Capital One Arena, reiterating his plans to address immigration, birthright citizenship, and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The event saw attendance from prominent figures like Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX; Jeff Bezos, co-founder of Amazon; and Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta. Top executives from Google, Microsoft, and other global business leaders also graced the occasion. This marks the first U.S. presidential inauguration at the Capitol in 40 years, with the location chosen considering the cold weather.
“With the inauguration of the American President, it is believed that the dominance of the U.S. dollar will further solidify globally,” observers noted. India remains aligned with the dollar, opposing the push for the BRICS currency by China and other nations.
Meanwhile, in a message to Trump on his inauguration, Pope Francis urged him to lead the nation “without room for hatred.” The Pope expressed hope that under Trump’s leadership, the American people would prosper, and efforts would be made to build a more just society devoid of hatred, discrimination, and exclusion.
“Our human family faces numerous challenges, not least the scourge of war,” the Pope said. “I pray to God to guide your efforts to foster peace and reconciliation among people,” he added.
The swearing-in ceremony was held in the Rotunda Hall of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., where Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath. Trump used two Bibles for the ceremony: one used by Abraham Lincoln in 1861 and another gifted by his mother in 1955. Vice President J.D. Vance was also sworn in during the event.
