Hamas Support Propaganda, Indian Student Arrested in the U.S., Visa Canceled

An Indian student has been arrested in the U.S. for allegedly engaging in pro-Hamas propaganda. Badr Khan Suri, a research student at Georgetown University, was arrested by immigration officers from his home in Virginia on Monday night. The officials, identifying themselves as members of the Department of Homeland Security, informed Suri that his visa had been canceled by the government.

Suri has also been accused of having ties to terrorism. He allegedly promoted anti-Semitism through social media and maintained a close connection with a senior advisor of Hamas. Since Suri’s activities were based in the U.S., the Secretary of State issued a deportation order against him, which will take effect on March 15, 2025. This was announced by Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, via social media.

Dr. Badr Khan Suri is a postdoctoral fellow at the Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. He earned a Ph.D. in Peace and Conflict Studies from the Nelson Mandela Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution at Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi.

Meanwhile, an Indian student whose U.S. visa was canceled due to her participation in pro-Palestinian protests and support for Hamas recently returned to India voluntarily. Ranjani Srinivasan, a research student at Columbia University, left the U.S. after authorities accused her of supporting Hamas by taking part in protest movements, which led to the cancellation of her visa.

Universities across the U.S. have witnessed events expressing solidarity with Hamas, prompting the government to intensify its surveillance of foreign students.
