Israel cargo ship hijacked by Iran to be released soon

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially confirmed that an Israeli-related cargo ship hijacked by Iran from the Strait of Hormuz will be released. Iran’s foreign ministry said it would provide consular access to the detainees and release them all soon.

On the 13th of this month, the MSC Aries, a ship 50 nautical miles (92 km) from Fujairah in the UAE, which is connected to Israel, was taken under control by the naval forces of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. 17 Indians, including Malayalees, and crew members from Russia, Pakistan, Philippines and Estonia were on board. Ann Tessa Joseph, a cadet from Thrissur who was the only woman in the group, was released.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Amir Abdul Ayan said the ship was being released as a humanitarian measure. Amir Abdul Ayan told the media a while ago that the government is seriously thinking about releasing the ship. He also said that they had already shared information with various ambassadors regarding the release of the ship.

There are many crew members from different countries on board. Now the Foreign Minister of Iran is stating that the decision regarding the release of all of them has been conveyed through their embassies. The discussions were held in Tehran, the capital of Iran.

Iran’s official Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) captured the ship that was coming from Dubai to Navsheva Port in Mumbai in the Strait of Hormuz. Near the port city of Fujairah, the Iranian ship was captured by landing commandos on the upper deck of the ship through a helicopter.
