Modi Took the Right Approach in the Russia-Ukraine War, Shashi Tharoor Praises Him Again
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has once again showered praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that Modi’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine war was the right one. He pointed out that Modi is a rare leader who is acceptable to both Russia and Ukraine. Tharoor made these remarks while speaking at the ‘Raisina Dialogue’ in Delhi. This is not the first time Tharoor has praised Modi’s actions.
Tharoor elaborated on his views, stating, “In February 2022, during a parliamentary discussion, I was among those who criticized India’s decision to buy oil from Russia. I believed that purchasing oil from Russia was against several international agreements. However, I later realized that my stance was incorrect. Today, Modi has the ability to engage in dialogue with both Russia and Ukraine, which is a rare trait among global leaders.”
The BJP welcomed Tharoor’s remarks. BJP state president K. Surendran tagged Tharoor on X (formerly Twitter) and posted a congratulatory note. Surendran stated that Tharoor’s praise for Modi’s diplomatic stance in the Russia-Ukraine war was commendable.
He further noted that, unlike other Congress leaders, Shashi Tharoor recognizes and appreciates India’s global advancements under Modi’s leadership. This is not the first time Tharoor has backed Modi.
Previously, Tharoor had supported Modi’s meeting with former US President Donald Trump. In an interview with a news agency, he remarked that “Trump’s comments about Modi cannot be dismissed lightly—something significant must have happened.” Tharoor also opined that Modi must have addressed the issue of illegal immigrants being shackled and deported during his talks with Trump.
