Nishant Agarwal, a former Brahmos engineer, was sentenced to life in prison

A Nagpur district court on Monday sentenced former Brahmos Aerospace Pvt Ltd engineer Nishant Agarwal to life imprisonment under the Official Secrets Act for spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. Agarwal was sentenced to 14 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 3,000.

Additional Sessions Court Judge MV Deshpande said in the order that Agarwal was convicted under Section 235 of the Criminal Procedure Code for the offense punishable under Section 66 (f) of the IT Act and various sections of the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

The court sentenced Agarwal to life imprisonment and RI for 14 years under the Official Secrets Act. Agarwal, who works in the technical research department of the company’s missile center in Nagpur, was arrested in 2018 in a joint operation by the Military Intelligence and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

The former Brahmos aerospace engineer has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the stringent OSA.He worked at Brahmos for four years and leaked sensitive technical information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
