Optimism in Meeting with Macron; Ukraine War Entering Final Stage, Says Trump

Washington: US President Donald Trump said the war in Ukraine is approaching its final stages. Trump expressed hope that the war will end in a press conference after meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. Trump said that the war will end and that Zelensky will soon arrive in the United States to sign an agreement allowing the United States to mine minerals in Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a strong security backing for the peace deal. The two met three years after the war began. Trump said that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron had done nothing to end the war in Ukraine.

“Macron is a good friend of mine, I’ve met Keir Starmer, he’s a good guy. But he didn’t do anything to end the war,” Trump said. The meeting was decided amid a rift between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump. Trump had previously said that he did not believe Zelensky had a role in ending the war and that Zelensky’s participation in the talks was not important.
