Pope Francis, who is currently undergoing treatment at Gemelli Hospital in Rome, has shown slight improvement in his health. The Vatican announced that his lung infection has reduced and that he has been able to speak with his aides. It was also confirmed that the Pope is able to sit up and eat on his own.
Meanwhile, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited Pope Francis. She spoke with him and wished for his speedy recovery.
Before being admitted to the hospital last week, Pope Francis had already shown symptoms of bronchitis. Due to his condition, officials had been assigned to read his prepared speeches at events he was scheduled to attend. Over the past 12 years as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis has been hospitalized multiple times. In March 2023, he was admitted for three days due to bronchitis.
Speculation had previously arisen about whether health concerns might lead the Pope to resign. However, he dismissed these rumors, stating that the Church is led not by physical strength but by intellect and heart. Concerns over his health grew when he appointed an aide to read his speeches on his behalf.
