Presence of dangerous bacteria on the space station, Threatens Sunita Williams and her team

Dangerous bacteria found in space station Enterobacter bugandensis was discovered. Currently, Indian-origin Sunitha Williams is aboard the space station.

These are called superbugs. It is a multi-drug resistant bacterium capable of resisting antimicrobial drugs. The scientists also revealed that these, which have been in the station for a long time, have become more powerful through genetic modification in the closed environment inside. These are brought to the station by astronauts from Earth.

Sunita Williams and fellow passenger Barry Eugene Bush Wilmore arrived at the space station on June 6 aboard the new Boeing Starliner spacecraft. The spacecraft was designed by a team consisting of Williams. The other seven people at the station have been there for a long time. After discovering the bacteria, Sunita and Wilmore can return to Earth only after a week of observation.

Bacteria that have been in space for 24 years are more dangerous than the same bacteria on Earth. Since the immune system of astronauts on the station is different from that on Earth, it is impossible to say how effective the treatments on Earth will be. The study was led by Dr. Kasturi Venkateswaran, a scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California.
