Punjab: Shiv Sena Leader Targeted in Murder Attempt, Probe Underway

Ludhiana: Attempt to kill Shiv Sena leader in broad daylight in Punjab. The attack was carried out by members of the Nihang sect, an armed group of the Sikh religion. Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar was seriously injured and admitted to Dayanand Medical College Hospital in Ludhiana.

On Friday morning, Sandeep and Gunman had come to attend the death anniversary function of Ravinder Arora, president of Sansi Trust, which runs the civil hospital. As soon as he came out after paying obeisance, four youths attacked him and escaped.

The assailants who came in the guise of Nihangs attacked Sandeep Thapar who was traveling on a two-wheeler. Gunman was given to Sandeep Thapar in the context of security threat. But when the Nihangs came to attack him, he ran away for his life.

Thapar was admitted to Dayanand Medical College Hospital in Ludhiana with severe cuts on his head and hand in the attack. Various Hindu organizations protested the attack on Thapar. The Punjab Police has stated that the gunman who escaped during the attack has been suspended.
