Roger Federer knocked out by Hubert Hurkacz in Wimbledon quarter-finals

Poland’s 24-year-old Hubert Hurkacz notched up the biggest win of his career on Wednesday at Wimbledon but he is not going to be fondly remembered for it by millions of tennis fans across the globe. Hurkacz will play seventh seed Matteo Berrettini for a place in Sunday’s final.

The 14th seed knocked out 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer in the quarter-finals 3-6, 6-7 (4), 0-6 in less than 2 hours. Stats won’t matter to many after that unreal scoreline but Federer made 31 unforced errors. He managed to win only 33 percent of his 2nd serves and as Hurkacz held his nerve and didn’t let the sense of occasion get to him. It might have been the last time the tennis world has seen the legendary Federer at the Center Court of his favourite Grand Slam. It is the first time 20-time major champion Federer has lost a set to love at the All England Club. It was an anti-climax as he was bageled in what might be his last set at Wimbledon. Federer raced off the court with his face telling the story of disappointment of having lost the last 8 match in straight sets.

Hurkacz never looked back after winning the 2nd-set tie-breaker as he bageled the legendary Federer in the third set to end the Swiss great’s dreams of winning his 21st Grand Slam title at his favourite major tournament.
