Situation Worsens in Pakistan, Government Imposes Lockdown

The government has imposed a lockdown in Pakistan, closing schools, highways, and restricting mobile internet services. The decision came after protests erupted following the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Activists of his party, Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), took to the streets demanding his release, which led to the situation spiraling out of control. In response, the government declared a lockdown in the capital city, Islamabad.

The lockdown was implemented after PTI announced plans to hold a massive rally in the city. The protesters intended to demonstrate in the Red Zone of Islamabad, where the parliament, government offices, and foreign embassies are located.

Key highways and roads leading to Islamabad were blocked using shipping containers. Educational institutions in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been declared closed for the next day. The government had earlier imposed a complete lockdown in Pakistan last month as part of security preparations.

The lockdown in Islamabad was also implemented in light of the arrival of foreign diplomats to the country. Reports indicate that Islamabad and Rawalpindi are now fully under military control. As a precaution, schools and colleges were shut down, and all social events, including weddings, have been restricted. The government deployed the military in the capital for security purposes, and has issued high alert instructions to ensure public safety.
