U.S. Presidential Election: Trump Gains Lead, Wins in 14 States

Washington: As the polling for the U.S. presidential election enters its final hours, early indications show a favorable lead for Republican candidate Donald Trump. According to reports, Trump has secured 177 out of the 538 electoral votes. Vice President Kamala Harris has earned 99 electoral votes so far. Trump has won in 14 states where results have started to come in, while Harris has emerged victorious in eight states.

Trump’s victories have been recorded in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, North Dakota, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Louisiana. On the other hand, Kamala Harris has won in Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont.

The first votes in the country were cast in the small village of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, where polling began at 10:30 AM local time (half-past midnight Eastern Time). In just 12 minutes, the results were announced: of the six voters, three voted for Trump and three for Harris. This early split is seen as an indication of a fiercely contested race, according to media reports.

Polling, which began at 4:30 PM IST, will conclude at 9:30 AM the following day (11:30 AM in Alaska).
