Agriculture Department Officials to Visit Shirur to Assess dredging Machine for Search Operations

Ankola: It will be checked if the earthmoving machine in Thrissur can be used to search for Arjun, the Malayali lorry driver who went missing in the landslide. For this, officials of the agriculture department left for Shirur from Thrissur. The team consists of two assistant directors and a machine operator. The action is based on the official request of the District Collector of Uttara Kannada to the District Collector of Thrissur. The team will reach Shirur by tonight.

After reaching there and checking, the final decision will be taken to take the machine. The machine can remove mud up to a depth of 25 feet. It will be checked whether the machine can be operated in the Gangavali river. The water-based dredging machine has been specially developed by the Agricultural Research Center and the Agricultural Mechanization Mission. The machine is specially prepared from Kozhikode Marine Industries.

Two weeks have passed since the rescue mission for Arjun. A landslide occurred at Shirur in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka on July 16. The Karnataka government says that the adverse weather has caused the search in the river to be stopped. The government also said that the rescue operation will resume if the weather becomes favorable. The Kerala government and Arjun’s family had come forward against the termination of the rescue operation.
