What happened in Kozhikode should never have happened, says the Chief Minister

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has responded to the fire incident at Kozhikode Medical College. He stated that what happened in Kozhikode is something that should not have occurred under normal circumstances. An investigation by electrical inspectors is necessary to determine exactly what happened. Only after this investigation will the actual cause be known. Health Minister Veena George has gone to the medical college, and further steps will be decided following her visit, the Chief Minister added.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case of unnatural death in connection with the deaths of five people during the fire in the emergency department of the Government Medical College Hospital. The case was registered in the deaths of Surendran (59) from Vadakara, Gopalan (65) from West Hill, and Gangadharan (70) from Koyilandy, based on complaints from their relatives.

The explosion in the UPS room of the emergency department caused thick smoke to spread across four floors of the building, following which five bodies were moved to the mortuary. Along with the three mentioned above, the bodies of Ganga (34) and Naseera (44) were also shifted. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether their deaths were directly caused by the incident.
