All five bodies of those who died during the short circuit incident at the Kozhikode Medical College will undergo post-mortem examinations. The decision comes amid allegations surrounding the cause of death. Police have registered a case of unnatural death in connection with the incident.
The explosion and smoke occurred following a short circuit in the UPS (battery unit) of the MRI unit in the PMSMS Y Block emergency department. The smoke was noticed around 7:45 p.m. on Friday from the ground floor. There is suspicion surrounding the deaths of the five individuals during the incident. Hospital authorities have claimed that the victims did not die from smoke inhalation. However, following allegations raised by leaders including MLA T. Siddique, it was decided to conduct post-mortems on all five bodies.
The post-mortem aims to clarify the cause of death of Gopalan (West Hill), Gangadharan (Koyilandy), Ganga (West Bengal), Naseera (Wayanad), and Surendran (Vadakara). It has been found that Ganga, a native of Bengal, had died before reaching the hospital. Since it was a case of suicide attempt, her body will also undergo post-mortem. Meanwhile, the hospital principal has announced that a temporary casualty ward at the medical college will be set up soon.
