The coronavirus causes more havoc on patients suffering from hypertension. Studies on about three thousand infectives in China have shown that the risk of death from the corona is twice as high in patients struggling with high blood pressure. In patients who do not take medicines to keep blood pressure under control, the risk of being known is many times more.

In this study, led by Professor Fay Li, researchers analyzed the health status of 2886 patients admitted to Huo Shen Shan Hospital in Wuhan. Of these, 29.5 percent i.e. 850 patients were victims of hypertension. During treatment, 4 per cent or 34 patients died, while it was only 1.1 per cent, if you look at the death toll of patients without hypertension.

According to a paper published in the ‘European Heart Journal’, the study showed a 2.12 times higher risk of death from corona in hypertensive patients by combining age, gender and other factors. At the same time, this risk is found to be 2.17 times higher among those who do not eat blood pressure medicine. The results of the study are a warning to patients struggling with high blood pressure, says Professor Lee. Symptoms may be more severe than corona due to narrow arteries.
