Thiruvananthapuram: The government has issued an order granting permission to sell alcohol in IT parks across the state. Both government-owned and private IT parks can now apply for a license. Alcohol can be sold to official visitors and guests of IT companies.
Only one license will be issued per establishment. The annual license fee is set at ₹10 lakh. Companies that receive the license can only purchase foreign alcohol from establishments holding an FL-9 license. Alcohol should not be sold on the first day of the month or on other government-designated dry days. The operational hours for alcohol sale will be from 12 PM to 12 AM.
Despite the numerous establishments, only one license will be granted per company. The liquor shops will be attached to the companies but will not be linked to office spaces. There must be separate access routes to these shops. Alcohol will only be available to employees of companies within the IT parks and the visiting guests.
The regulation specifies that alcohol must not be sold to outsiders. It also states that low-quality alcohol should not be sold. In case of any complaints, officials with the same rank as the Deputy Excise Commissioner are authorized to take action and impose fines, according to the government order.
