Cardiac surgery at Pariyaram Govt Medical College stopped. Patients admitted for surgery were discharged en masse after the cath lab was down. The operation theater was earlier struck for repairs.
The thorascopic tube in the cath lab was damaged and the lab was shut down. About 26 patients who were waiting for angiogram, angioplasty and pacemaker implantation have been discharged from here. Even the patients who were advised to undergo surgery within five days have been discharged.
There were three cath labs in Pariyar. One had already stopped functioning due to age. The second cath lab has been defunct for a year. The authorities did not make any effort to repair and make this cath lab useful in time. When the third cath lab also went on strike, the mass discharge of patients occurred.
