Thiruvananthapuram: The temperature in the state is expected to rise further today. The India Meteorological Department has predicted that in isolated areas, temperatures could increase by 2°C to 3°C above normal. As a result, the combination of high heat and humid air is likely to cause discomfort and extreme heat conditions.
In light of the rising temperatures across the state, the State Disaster Management Authority has issued safety guidelines for the public.
Excessive heat can lead to serious health issues like heat stroke, dehydration, and sunburn. The public is advised to follow the guidelines listed below:
. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 11 AM and 3 PM.
. Drink plenty of clean water even if you do not feel thirsty.
. Avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, and carbonated cold drinks during the day.
. Wear light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothes.
. Wear footwear when going out and use hats or caps for protection.
. Consume plenty of fruits and vegetables.
. Use ORS (Oral Rehydration Solutions) and electrolyte-rich drinks.
. Schools should ensure access to clean drinking water and proper ventilation for students.
