The Central Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert till today due to heatwave conditions prevailing in various areas of Palakkad, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Alappuzha districts. The warning is based on the forecast that the temperature will rise up to 40 degree Celsius in Palakkad district, 39 degree Celsius in Thrissur and Kozhikode districts and 38 degree Celsius in Alappuzha districts in the next few days.
A temperature warning has also been issued in the districts except Idukki and Wayanad till May 6 as the temperature is likely to rise. Meanwhile, temperatures will rise by 4 to 5 degrees above normal in many parts of the state.
It was decided in a meeting of the Disaster Management Authority chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan last day to close educational institutions due to the possibility of a heat wave.
Educational institutions including professional colleges will be closed till May 6. School students should avoid holiday classes from 11 am to 3 pm. It has also been instructed to avoid daytime parades and drills in the training centers of police, fire brigade, other forces, NCC, SPC etc.
