Heavy Rain; Four shutters of Malankara Dam opened

Kochi: Two more shutters of the Malankara Dam have been opened as the water level has risen due to heavy rains in the state. With this, the number of open shutters has increased to four. The two shutters opened today have been raised by 50 cm each and those opened earlier by 20 cm each.

With this, the water level in Thodupuzha and Muvatupuzha rivers has risen. If necessary, more water will be released and residents on both sides of the river should be cautious, officials said.

The weather department has warned that heavy rain will continue in the state today. The Central Meteorological Department has announced orange alert in nine districts in view of heavy rain. Orange alert has been issued in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. Yellow alert has also been announced in other districts in view of heavy rains.
