New Delhi: Union Forest Minister Bhupendra Yadav strongly criticized the state government in the landslide disaster in Wayanad. There was an illegal human settlement at the site of the disaster. It was the local politicians who made this possible.
Illegal activities are carried out under local bodies. The Union Minister also blamed the government system for providing illegal protection to such activities.
Local politicians did not allow the land to be properly classified as environmentally sensitive areas. They gave permission for the encroachments. A very sensitive area was not given that importance. The Union Minister said that the zones were not created even for tourism.
All warnings were ignored. At least in the future, this type of mining and excavation should be eliminated. The state government should prepare a plan for environmentally sensitive areas. Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav accused the Kerala government of ignoring the committee appointed by the central government.
