Chennai: Tamil Nadu Rural Development Minister I Periyasamy has said that the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam will be raised to 152 feet. Periyasamy also said that the DMK government will make the dream of Tamil Nadu a reality. He was responding to a journalist’s question about whether the permissible storage capacity of the dam has remained at 142 feet for the past 10 years. The response was made at a press conference after assessing the rain damage in Theni.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had announced that he would hold talks with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over the dispute over the Mullaperiyar dam repair work. Stalin’s explanation was in response to a question from the opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The Kerala Forest Department had stopped the goods brought by the Tamil Nadu Public Works Department without permission in the name of Mullaperiyar dam repair work at the Vallakadavu check post last week. Stalin’s response came after the opposition AIADMK came out to criticize the Tamil Nadu government over this.
