Iranian Agents Allegedly Planned to Assassinate Donald Trump Before He Took Charge as President, Says U.S. Justice Department

Washington: The U.S. Department of Justice disclosed that Iranian agents had allegedly planned to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump before he assumed office. This announcement on Friday highlighted security threats to the incoming president.

According to the Justice Department, an Iranian national, identified as Farhad Shakari, was charged with plotting the assassination on orders from Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard. Shakari claimed he was instructed to carry out the plan on October 7, 2024, but reportedly did not intend to execute it by the set deadline.

Iranian media reported strong objections from Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei, who sharply criticized the revelations.
